“It Was Necessary”

If it feels like you are losing friends and relationships; like you no longer have anything in common; or if you’ve lost touch with people you never thought you could live without, it is not a coincidence – It Was Necessary. Those dysfunctional, codependent relationships that were formed during some of the lowest times of your life – that all you had in common was hurt, pain, and failure – can no longer sustain you. It does not mean that you are better than those people, but it does mean that you are better than you were, when those relationships were formed.

Don’t cry, don’t beat yourself up or feel guilty. Beware of those times that you feel lonely or isolated. Don’t make the mistake of trying to go back. Trust me, it will not work. You may even feel like they abandoned or rejected you, but perhaps it is because you were instructed to let the relationship go and you were hesitant…You knew you didn’t belong there. You tried to get them to go with you, but they refused – whether because of fear, complacency, laziness, or pride. Nevertheless, you made the decision not to die there; even if it meant leaving them. You exercised your faith and put in the work, you allowed God to heal you and set you on the path to your Purpose.

So, That Settles It. It’s okay to mourn the demise of relationships that were formed out of dysfunction and codependency, but under no circumstance is it okay to go back. It Was Necessary to prepare you for such a time as this. Now you are in position and you have what is needed to bless others who are ready to receive the help. They have been waiting for you. Aren’t you glad you didn’t give up and die in that place?

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

~Romans 8:18-21
